Police arrest Canton man for suspected kidnapping

By

A Canton man was arrested on kidnapping charges on Saturday after his date contacted the State Police to report that she was being held against her will. Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty said the woman, who had met the suspect on social media, told the man she was calling a taxi but actually called the State Police emergency line. State Police then immediately called Canton police, who responded to the residence and arrested Jahi K. Malary, 31, of 92A Neponset Street. He was charged with kidnapping and intimidation of a witness and also had an outstanding warrant from another law enforcement agency.

Investigation continues into York St. shooting

An unidentified woman is still recovering from a gunshot wound after she was hit in the leg by a stray bullet fired from a vehicle in the York Street/Ledgewood Drive area around 10 p.m. on Monday night, November 25. Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty said the woman was going out to her car after leaving a friend’s house at the time the shots were fired. Rafferty said a single bullet struck her, but many shots were fired. Police have not said if more than one suspect is involved. Canton and State Police scoured the entire area with K-9 units Monday night into Tuesday and York Street was closed for four hours after the incident. Rafferty said the investigation is still ongoing.
