The CHS boys cross country team improved to 2-0 in the Davenport Division while the girls also made it into the win column after last week’s double victory over Stoughton at Houghton’s Pond.

The meet highlighted the steady improvement of Canton’s runners as both squads far outpaced the Black Knights, with the boys winning 19-38 and the girls prevailing 20-40.

In the girls’ race, Marie Messinger led the way with a time of 22:34, followed by Kayla Wong (22:38) and Johanna Bouwmeister (22:46). Erika Boone and Kate Kelleher rounded out the top five with times of 24:13 and 24:34, respectively.

On the boys’ side, the entire top five finished within 10 seconds of each other, led by senior Peter Milne in 19:37. Milne was followed by Chris Rota (19:42), Alex Maddestra (19:43), Jack Hernon (19:44), and Elias Jabbour (19:45).

This week, both teams were due to face a tough test with unbeaten Sharon scheduled to visit Pequitside Farm on Wednesday afternoon. A win against the Eagles would give the boys team sole possession of first place with two more league meets to go at North Attleboro (Oct. 7) and home versus Milford (Oct. 16).
