PMC Kids Ride returns to Irish Cultural Centre

By

Canton’s students have just started a new school year and on a beautiful Sunday morning in September, hundreds of kids and their families gather, their bikes decorated, tuned and at the ready. Kids gas up on fruit and a few munchkins. Laughter fills the air as they wait impatiently for the magic words, “On your mark, get set … go!” Cheers, clapping, and cow bells erupt from the crowd as the kids start their way through the course through the Irish Cultural Centre grounds, as balloons and music float overhead. Canton’s annual PMC Kids ride has begun once again!

If all of this sounds fun to you and your family, then join us for the third annual Canton Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) Kids Ride on Sunday, September 15, at the Irish Cultural Centre of New England. This is Canton’s kids’ version of the Pan-Mass Challenge, the largest single athletic fundraising event in the country. Now in its 40th year, the PMC has raised more than $700 million over its lifespan for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and is on pace to reach its 2019 fundraising goal of $60 million.

The Canton PMC Kids Ride is a great way for kids to kick off a fun school year while helping other kids who are undergoing treatment for cancer. Kids helping kids — what could be better?

Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome. The event offers two courses: a short loop designed for children 5 and under and those on tricycles, balance bikes, and big wheels, and a one-mile loop designed for all other riders that goes through the ICC campus. Volunteers, riders, and families are also invited to attend a celebration after the ride which will include food, face-painting, WROR music, crafts, bike decorating, raffles, and an awards ceremony. Every dollar raised helps patients at Dana-Farber and helps researchers find new ways to cure cancer.

Registration is $20 and riders are also asked to raise a minimum of $30. All kids receive a loaded ‘goodie’ bag with gift cards. Organizers are also looking for volunteers and corporate sponsorships for the ride.

Thank you to this year’s sponsors: Bank of Canton, Bright Horizons, Boston Mutual Life Insurance, Homewood Suites, Triad Advertising, ICC, Treetop Adventures, Chuck the bike guy, and many other local sponsors of our huge raffle.
