Cheryl’s Kids to host 10th annual Bake Sale May 19

By

The 10th annual “Cheryl’s Kids” Bake Sale will be held on Sunday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 557 Pleasant Street, coinciding with the Dean S. Luce 5K and Fun Run. Cheryl Isaksen, a Canton resident and daycare provider for over 30 years, has been hosting the bake sale each year together with her daycare kids, daycare alumni, and parents.

“The bake sale is always one of my favorite days of the year,” Isaksen said. “It’s amazing to see all of the kids come together for a good cause. Whether it’s baking, helping set up, or managing the donations, the kids are a huge part of the event every year.”

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the DCF Wonderfund, helping to support children in foster care. On any given day in Massachusetts, DCF serves over 50,000 kids from newborns to young adults up to 24 years old. The Wonderfund gives kids and teens served by DCF the opportunity to enjoy childhood’s magical moments like summer camp, after-school activities, and gifts during the holidays.

“This year, my grandson asked if the bake sale could help ‘give toys to kids who don’t have them’ and I couldn’t be more proud to help him do that,” said Isaksen.

In addition to raising funds for the Wonderfund, the bake sale will serve as a toy drive. All of the toys that are collected will be donated to DCF offices for use and distribution. Toys must be new.

Each year, the bake sale proceeds have benefited a different charitable organization. Past beneficiaries have included the Canton Food Pantry, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Kids Cancer Buzz-Off benefitting Children’s Hospital, Canton Parks and Recreation in honor of Alison Grossman, the Kaleigh Kenyon Memorial Fund, the Stepping Strong Foundation, and Crohn’s research at Mass. General Hospital.

The bake sale began 10 years ago with an idea from one of the children in Isaksen’s daycare. Baked goods and items are donated by friends and daycare families, and alumni of Cheryl’s Daycare help run the event. Along with the bake sale, Isaksen also has a BBQ, moon bounce, and games for kids throughout the event. All are welcome.

If you cannot make it to the bake sale but want to donate to the Wonderfund with a toy or a donation, please email cayisak@gmail.com.
