Superintendent names new Luce Elementary principal

By

School Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Fischer-Mueller has announced the appointment of Yeshi Gaskin Lamour as the next principal of the Luce Elementary School. Lamour will replace longtime Principal Robie Peter, who is retiring in June after a 30-plus-year career in education.

A resident of Canton, Lamour has served for the past six years as principal of the Holmes Innovation School in Dorchester, a K-5 elementary school that is part of the Boston Public Schools. She previously taught for six years in fully-inclusive classrooms in the second and fourth grades and has prior experience as a teacher leader, coordinator of special education and student support, and as a math teacher in grades 11 and 12.

Lamour earned her Bachelor of Science degree in management from Lesley University and a Master of Education in urban elementary and special education from Boston College, where she was a recipient of the Donovan Urban Teaching Scholar Award. She has completed both the Principal Residency Network in advanced school leadership at Northeastern University and the Lynch Leadership Academy at Boston College. She is an alumna of Boston Latin School.

In her downtime, Lamour is an avid snowboarder, a reader of “realistic fiction,” and a world traveler.

The process of finding a new principal began in the fall and involved significant community input, drawn from group discussions and a survey administered to Luce parents/guardians and staff. Information from the discussions and survey was then used to develop a candidate profile that identified the skills, qualities and experience level deemed most important in a successful candidate.

The search committee was spearheaded by Fisher-Mueller and Assistant Superintendent Pat Kinsella and included School Committee member Mike Loughran, JFK Principal Christine McMahon, and Rodman Early Childhood Coordinator Donna Kilday, along with Luce faculty, staff and parents/guardians.
