Les Mis: Let’s hear it for the orchestra!

By

Dear Editor:

Congratulations once again to the sponsorship, leadership, cast and production crew of the Canton High School Drama Club production of Les Miserables as the play was a great success and a joy to watch.

I wish to recognize another integral component of the play which went missing from the March 21 play coverage, that being the very dedicated, talented, and hardworking musicians comprising the student pit orchestra. Led by Mr. Brian Thomas, the following members of our pit orchestra performed brilliantly during the play:

Piano – Alexandra Lutkevich, Alto Saxophone – Jin Lee, Bass – Eric Yang, Cello – Amanda Duffin and Kaitlyn Sullivan, Clarinet – Allison Smetana and Soomin Ahn, Flute – Dana Hurley, Percussion – Haley Donovan, Synthesizer/Melodica – Michael Donovan, Trombone – Jake McDonough, Trumpet/Flugelhorn – Hannah McLear, Trumpet – Noel LaFrance and Steven Durbin, Tuba – Aiden Lee, Viola – Kayla Camille and Oliver Le, Violin – Anna Riley, Baylah Mazonson, Erin Marks, Jamie MacGregor, Justin Luk, Pooja Subramanian, Sean P. Sullivan and Shannon Doyle.

Although these wonderful musicians are not visible during the performance, they need to be front and center and recognized for their role in making the production a success. Hats off to our pit orchestra!

Jack Sullivan
