Blue Hills Regional opens search for next superintendent

A search is underway for the next superintendent-director of Blue Hills Regional Technical School in Canton due to the anticipated retirement later this year of James P. Quaglia, who has held the position since 2010.

Blue Hills Regional has been a leader in career and technical education for more than 50 years. The school provides a full slate of robust academics as well as outstanding technical education in 17 career pathways in high-wage, high-demand fields. Blue Hills has a student population of 846 who come from its nine member towns: Avon, Braintree, Canton, Dedham, Holbrook, Milton, Norwood, Randolph and Westwood.

Qualifications for the position include the following:

* Licensed as a vocational-technical superintendent in Massachusetts

* Master’s degree required; advanced degree preferred

* Minimum of 10 years in education that includes classroom experience and at least five years of administrative experience

* Strong leadership and communications skills

* Successful experience in school finance and budget formulation

* Experience in building successful relationships with key stakeholders

* Positive interpersonal skills and experience in team building

* Exemplary character, ethics and professionalism

* Competence in both academic and Career and Vocational Technical Education (CVTE)

* Knowledge of the importance of technology in 21st century teaching and learning

Salary will be negotiated commensurate with experience (three-year contract plus benefits package).

The deadline for applications is May 3. The search committee will select and interview candidates May 6-17 and finalists will be selected May 20-24. Finalist interviews will take place May 28 to June 14. The position has a start date of September 1.
