Michael F. Coyle, 88, of Canton, passed away November 15 surrounded by his loving family.

Born, raised, and educated in County Sligo, Ireland, he came to the United States in 1955. Michael was a proud veteran of the Irish Free State Army 1947-1949, British Army (R.E.M.E) 1949-1954, and the United States Army 1956-1958 and was a member of the NATO soccer team.

He previously lived in Weston before moving to Canton 21 years ago. He served as the chief of police at Regis College before retiring in 1997.

Beloved husband of the late Margaret M. (Kerwin). Father of Tara Ianachino and her husband, Edward, of Tewksbury, Siobhan O’Brien and her husband, Kevin, of Canton, Alanna Meade and her husband, William, of Canton, and Michael Coyle and his wife, Suzanne, of Walpole. Grandfather of Liam and Declan Meade, Ryan and Chase Coyle, and Jacqueline and Lauren Conley. Brother of Josie Walker of England, Peggy Burns of Derry, Ireland, and Joan Feeney of Sligo, Ireland.

A funeral mass was held Monday in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial private. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
