Canton police have arrested three suspects in an armed home invasion that occurred on Monday, October 8, around 1:30 p.m. at 238 Neponset Street. An unidentified female resident was taken from the scene to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and all responding Canton officers were unharmed.

According to Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty, police received a report of a man walking behind the Neponset Street residence carrying what the caller described as a “machine gun.” Responding officers were directed to the second floor apartment, and as they ascended the stairs, one of the suspects came to the rear door of the apartment with what police described as an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle in hand. Simultaneously, according to Rafferty, a female resident of the apartment was climbing out a window trying to avoid detection.

After realizing police were on scene the three masked suspects fled the residence in three different directions. Police apprehended two of the suspects and the third ran into the woods but was captured within the hour.

Rafferty said the investigation continues and a motive has not been definitely determined. “We can say with confidence that this was not a random crime,” she said.

The suspects have been identified as Deijon Holmes, 18, Josiah Fleming, 18, and Timothy Fleming, 19, all of Boston. Rafferty said all three suspects will be charged with home invasion and possession of a large capacity firearm. All three suspects were held in custody until a hearing set for October 17.

Commenting on the action of the responding officers, Rafferty said, “Their bravery and professionalism are to be commended. The members of the Canton Police Department take this time to reflect on our fellow officers (most recently in South Carolina) who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We are so very grateful that today was a good day for law enforcement.”

The attendant was unharmed. Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty said the suspect made away with $400 in lottery tickets and $300 in cash. The suspect was described as a tall, thin black male, wearing all black clothing and a black ski mask. The suspect showed a black gun during the robbery. Thirty minutes later, Stoughton police reported a similar robbery by a suspect of the same description on Washington Street in Stoughton. Canton police also continue to investigate an armed robbery that occurred on September 27 at the 7-Eleven in Canton Center.
