Canton schools announce 2 more leadership departures

While School Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Fischer-Mueller has welcomed Debbie Rooney, new director of teaching and learning for preK-8, and new GMS Principal Sarah Shannon to the administrative team since the close of school in June, she now has two other significant administrative positions to fill over the summer.

Fischer-Mueller informed the School Committee last Wednesday, July 18, that Annya Houghton has resigned as GMS dean of students and April Goran, administrator for instructional technology, will be leaving in September.

Fischer-Mueller said Shannon will be working with CHS Principal Derek Folan to identify the best candidate for the dean of students position while the superintendent will be working with Goran and members of the technology administrative team to understand the administrator position and find the best replacement.

In other news from the July 18 School Committee meeting:

* School Business Administrator Barry Nectow reported that because of less out-of-district tuition charges and special education expenses, the town will spend less money than expected from the Special Education Stabilization Account and the state-financed special education circuit breaker account. Nectow said he now anticipates that they will need $600,000 of the $710,000 stabilization account to close the books for FY18 and will have $675,000 in circuit breaker funds remaining for the 2109 fiscal year …
