The case remains under investigation; however, Police Chief Ken Berkowitz said on Saturday that police believe they have identified the suspects involved and anticipate making additional arrests. No one was injured during the burglary and it was “definitely” not a random incident, according to Berkowitz.

“We are confident that the residents were specifically targeted,” said the chief.

Taken in the home invasion was roughly $2,000 in cash and a small safe.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m. and upon arrival, officers observed three individuals fleeing the house and running towards an awaiting Ford F-150 pickup truck. After a short police chase, one of the suspects bailed out of the truck on Mill Street in Stoughton and was apprehended by Officer Michael Chin, who Berkowitz said “disregarded his own personal safety” to pursue the armed suspect on foot. Police were also able to recover the gun that the suspect discarded when he exited the truck.

Berkowitz said the pickup truck sped off with the remaining occupants before crashing on Mill Street where the suspects fled the scene. Police continue to examine digital evidence and plan to execute a search warrant on the truck.

The suspect who was arrested at the scene, identified as 26-year-old Daronde Bethea of Brockton, has been charged with home invasion, armed assault in a dwelling, armed and masked robbery, felony possession of a firearm, larceny over $1,200, assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a firearm without a license (second offense), unlawful possession of ammunition, and conspiracy. Bethea was arraigned in court and bail was set at $500,000.

Police have also since issued a summons and remain on the lookout for Brendon Amado, 21, of Stoughton, who faces charges of home invasion, armed assault in a dwelling, armed robbery, larceny over $1,200, assault and battery, conspiracy and resisting arrest. Police have posted a photo of Amado on their website and Twitter page along with a warning that he should be considered armed and dangerous. “If you see Amado,” the warning states, “do not approach him but contact your local law enforcement agency.”

Assisting in the case are members of the Stoughton and Quincy police departments, the Massachusetts State Police, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Both Berkowitz and Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty praised all of the police work that has gone into the case and in particular the actions of Officer Chin. Rafferty also singled out the work of Detective Sgt. Paul Gallagher and Sgt. Mike Lank, who were working a detail on nearby Bailey Street and quickly responded to the scene to provide backup.
