Betsy’s Barbershop at 789 Washington Street will hold its third annual Buzz-Off, a fundraiser for the Joe Andruzzi (Up)Beat Cancer Foundation, on Sunday, May 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All of the proceeds, including tips, will go to the Andruzzi Foundation. This year, the Broccoli Brothers Band will play from 2-3 p.m., and Canton’s popular DJ Gary Titus will emcee the event. There will be pony rides for kids, a cookout with “The Main Event,” prize giveaways, popcorn, cotton candy, and fun for the entire family. There will be nine auction items, including footballs signed by former Patriot Joe Andruzzi and current Patriot Matt Slater, a party for up to 20 people at the Ice House, four Red Sox tickets, golf for three with Attorney Glen Hannington at the Milton Hoosic, a lobster bake for four, and free rental of a 15-yard dumpster for two weeks from PBZ Construction. Everyone who gets a “cut for cancer” will also receive a t-shirt. In the past two years, Betsy’s Buzz-Off has raised over $18,000 for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, so come out and help support Joe’s foundation for families affected by cancer.

This past winter, the Canton Department of Public Works spent $764,864 on the snow and ice budget. The original budget for the fiscal year was $600,500.

According to the Canton Finance Committee, $110 million will be appropriated by the Canton town meeting voters for fiscal year 2019.

CHS senior Hannah Jerrier was named to the Patriot Ledger’s All-Scholastic Basketball Team. Hannah finished her career as the Bulldogs’ second all-time leading scorer. This past year, she set the single-game school record with 41 points and 25 rebounds, both against North Attleboro. Hannah is also a three-sport captain (volleyball, basketball and softball).

Federal health officials recently announced a nationwide crackdown on underage use of a popular e-cigarette brand manufactured by Juul Labs.

The average price of regular grade gasoline in the United States jumped 12 cents a gallon over the past 30 days to $2.83. The current gas price is 37 cents above where it was a year ago. The highest average price in the United States is $3.68 a gallon in California.

The Chen family, which operated Golden China at 599 Washington Street for over 20 years, has decided to sell the restaurant to Paul Yip of Golden Ocean Development. Yip plans to keep the name and offer the same menu while also retaining the current employees. Selectmen approved the transfer of an alcohol license, but Yip will need approval from the State Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission to complete the ownership transaction.

Kristin Mirliani is the new chairman of the Canton School Committee while former chairman Mike Loughran is the new vice chairman.

The Canton Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Canton Public Library. Master gardeners will be on site to answer your gardening questions.

The median home value in Massachusetts is $352,000, which is the third highest in the United States. The median household income is $70,628, which is the sixth highest in the United States.

In the town of Milton, three newcomers were elected to the Board of Selectmen, and all three ran unopposed. Another case where few want to get involved in politics.
