William J. “Red” Purdie, 91, of Clearwater, FL, and Canton, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2018, surrounded by his family in Clearwater, FL.

William was a proud Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Iron Workers Local #7, the Knights of Columbus of Canton, and a longtime member of Old Colony Yacht Club of Dorchester. His love for God, country, and his family was unwavering. Red was happiest when he was on his boat with family and friends.

Beloved husband of Connie (Semlow) and the late Margaret (Conley). Loving father of Carol Tracy and her husband, Harris, of Stoughton, William J. of Tampa, FL, Kathleen Purdie of Canton, and James W. of Stoughton. He was the son of the late Walter and Ester Purdie and the brother of the late Jane Iannaccone and Walter M. Purdie. Father-in-law of Jessie M. Purdie of Stoughton. Step-father of Bonnie Ugulano of Louisiana and the late Cheryl Toepfer. Grandfather of Michael and Kate Tracy of Braintree, Harris A. Tracy Jr. of Rockland, Jill M. Tracy of Stoughton, and Joseph, Lucas and William Purdie, all of Stoughton. Great-grandfather of Connor, Megan and Shea Tracy, all of Braintree. Also survived by many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours in the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Thursday, March 8, from 5-8 p.m. A memorial mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton on Friday, March 9, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
