CPD asking for help in robbery, shoplifting cases

Canton police are asking for the public’s assistance in solving two recent crimes — an armed robbery attempt and a shoplifting case.

The robbery incident occurred on Sunday night, January 24, at 11:25 p.m. at the Blue Hill Express Gas Station on Route 138. Police said a black male came into the store and demanded all of the money from the clerk. The clerk pressed the alarm button, and upon hearing the alarm the suspect fled on foot heading south on Turnpike Street. A K-9 unit was used in the search but lost track of the scent a short distance away. Police Lt. Patty Sherrill said the party may have then fled in a vehicle. Sherrill said police will review video surveillance from the store.

The CPD also posted a short video clip of the suspect on its Twitter page and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the individual. Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 781-828-1212.

The second incident occurred on Saturday evening, January 16, at Shaw’s Supermarket in Cobb’s Corner. The suspect, a white male between 20 and 30 years old, is believed to have stolen over $500 worth of baby formula. He drove away in a grey Ford Fusion with Massachusetts plate No. 3MM214. He is believed to be a suspect in other shoplifting incidents at Shaw’s.

Earlier this week, the CPD again took to Twitter to explain why they are devoting time and resources to this particular shoplifting incident:
