The family-oriented, health and wellness event will kick off with a special appearance by Wally the Green Monster, the official mascot of the Boston Red Sox. Wally will be available for photos with children from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. A 5K walk through Milton, beginning and ending at the hospital’s Highland Street entrance, and a shorter one-mile walk around the hospital’s campus will begin at 10 a.m.

The walk will be followed by a community health fair in the hospital’s main lobby at 11 a.m. Blood pressure checks as well as body mass index, glucose and vision tests will be provided. Displays and information from area health and wellness providers will also be available.

Family-oriented events following the walk include face painting, a moonwalk and obstacle course, tours of several emergency response vehicles, and DJ entertainment. A free barbeque lunch will be available starting at noon.

For teenagers, the nationally noted Arrive Alive texting and distracted driving prevention simulation program from Unite will be featured again this year. This interactive program uses a car and virtual reality goggles to show young drivers the dangers of texting while driving.

The hospital will also formally award its Community Health Mini-Grants to several local organizations whose programs address the primary health needs identified in the hospital’s Community Health Needs Assessment undertaken in 2013.

Funds raised at the event will go towards facility improvements and new equipment for the hospital’s outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. This multidisciplinary program provides monitored physical exercise, stretching and stress management as well as vital education for individuals recovering from a heart attack, heart surgery, angioplasty or angina. Since its inception, the hospital’s Cardiac Rehab has helped hundreds of local men and women lead new, heart-healthy lifestyles.

Visit www.bidmilton.org to download registration forms. Registration is $5 per walker, and children under the age of 12 are free.
