The CHS girls basketball team faced three tough league opponents in the past two weeks, and despite losing to all three they attained some personal team goals, according to head coach Jim Choquette.

The three losses came against teams with a combined record of 10-0: Kelley-Rex Division co-leaders Mansfield and Franklin and current Davenport Division leader Foxboro.

“In one game we cut our turnovers from 26 to six; in another we had more offensive rebounds than the other team;  and in another (Mansfield), we had our highest scoring total of the year (35),” said Choquette. “Our leadership from our captains — Shannon Foley, Gabby Kenefick, and Eileen Khoury — has been great as we continue to improve, play a lot of people, and get some younger members of the team involved.”

Khoury was the team-leading scorer against Mansfield with 10 points, while Meaghan Hunter added seven points and Casey Shea posted five blocks. Two freshmen also played well in the Mansfield game with Jess Powers scoring four points and Hannah Jerrier blocking a shot and grabbing two rebounds. Kenefick was the Bulldogs’ high scorer in the other two contests, finishing with six against Foxboro and tying Foley with nine against Franklin.

Canton was due to play Blackstone-Millville on Monday and will travel to Milford on Friday, January 2. The Bulldogs’ next home game is scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, at 6:30 p.m. versus Oliver Ames.
