Paul J. Curran, 81, of Canton, died Thursday, October 2, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.

The son of the late James J. and Gertrude M. (Healy) Curran, he was born in Norwood and raised and educated in Canton, where he had been a lifelong resident. Mr. Curran was a retired mechanical engineer who started as a draftsman at Emerson and Cuming. After his retirement from the Grace Corporation, he went on to found and serve as president of his own firm, Microsorb Technologies in Bellingham …
