John J. Halloran, 86, formerly of Canton, of North Andover, passed away August 28 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Somerville, he graduated from Somerville High School and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic for Cutler Volkswagen in Weymouth and later as a mechanic for the Needham School Department before retiring. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan and especially loved the Bruins.

Beloved husband of the late Margaret A. (LaBombard). Father of Jack Halloran of CT, Mary Ann Cummings and her husband, Dan, of North Andover, and Jean Schmiedel and her husband, Paul, of North Andover. He was predeceased by five sisters and one brother. Grandfather of Emily Cummings and Colleen Schmiedel.

A funeral mass was held Wednesday, September 3, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. Donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Veterans Service Department, 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
