News Notes: Tire thefts reported near Birchcroft Rd.

Canton Police reported three instances of tires being stolen off of motor vehicles in the Birchcroft Road area (off Dedham Street) over the last two weeks. In each instance, the tires were removed and the vehicles were left on cinder blocks. The case has been referred to detectives and area police, who have reported similar crimes in surrounding communities.

Copper wire taken from NStar substation

Three spools of copper wire, valued at $260, were stolen from the NStar Substation near the Canton Viaduct last week, according to police. The theft was discovered while police were responding to an alarm at the facility, which went off early Tuesday morning, July 29, around 2 a.m. Police found a fence cut and determined that the wire had been taken. Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty said surveillance cameras will be checked.

CPD officers join Mobile Operations Unit

New Canton police officers Ryan Sceviour and Eli Anderson completed training last week to join the CPD Mobile Operations Unit. Officers in the unit are assigned to traffic duty, funeral escorts, and special events. Sceviour and Anderson were trained by the MetroLEC Mobile Operations Unit, a regional police services unit.

CFD receives delivery of new ladder truck

The Canton Fire Department recently received delivery of a new ladder truck, and all firefighters are undergoing training this week, including three hours of classroom instruction and a 90-minute training on the new ladder. The truck will be in service starting August 11.
