Gildea, Martin J.
By Canton CitizenMartin J. Gildea, 49, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly July 29.
Born in Brockton, he was a lifelong resident of Canton. He was a member of the Canton High School Class of 1983 where he played on the football and baseball teams. He went on to attend Aquinas College in Boca Raton and graduated from Northeastern University. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling and working in the yard.
Beloved husband of Jo-An (Steele). Father of Lauren, Christopher and Jamie Gildea, all of Canton. Loving son of the late Kathleen (Eastwood) and George T. Gildea. Brother of George Gildea of PA, John Gildea and his wife, Ann Marie, of RI, Kerry Gildea of Stoughton, Ellen Leeber and her husband, Paul, of Hull, Mary Kay Whelan and her husband, Brian, Jane Desisto and her husband, Peter, and James Gildea, all of Canton, and Matthew Gildea and his wife, Susan, of Ohio. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass was held Wednesday, August 6, in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to “Our Neighbor’s in Need,” c/o St. Gerard Majella Church, 1860 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
