James M. Gilmore, 80, of Canton, formerly of Falmouth and Naples, FL, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, following a long illness.

Born in Boston, he graduated from Cathedral High School. James was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked for Boston Edison as a store manager and later in the garage until retirement.

Son of the late Patrick and Katherine Gilmore. Devoted husband for over 58 years to Elsie M. (Deveau) of Canton. Loving brother of Sister Catherine M. Gilmore CSJ of Framingham, Margaret E. Meissner and her husband, Francis, of Canton, and the late Edward P. Gilmore and his wife, Elaine, of Canton. Beloved uncle to many devoted nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday morning, June 30, in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton. Interment with veteran’s honors in Canton Corner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Sisters of St. Joseph Mission Advancement Office, 637 Cambridge St., Brighton, MA 02135. Arrangements by the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street.
