Alan R. Brooks, of Canton, 77, died Monday, June 23, 2014, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Brooks Alan 1Born in South Boston, he graduated from Northeastern University and obtained a master’s degree from Boston University. Alan worked for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority as director of patron services, working closely with the members of “E” Troop Mass. State Police in Weston for 25 years until retiring in 1996. Alan was a veteran, serving as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps.

Son of the late Charles and Vivian Brooks. Devoted husband of Patricia L. (McNeely) of Canton. Proud father of Daniel A. Brooks and his wife, Nicole, of Orlando, FL, and Sgt. Brian P. Brooks MSP and his wife, Nicole, of Canton. Brother of the late CDR Charles Brooks USN. He was the proud grandfather of Nicolas, Marissa, Julia, and the late Taylor Celene Brooks. Alan was a lay oblate at Glastonbury Abbey. He was devoted to his oblate community. He is the brother-in-law of James and Polly McNeely of Weymouth, Sheila McNeely of Canton, Kathy McNeely and Anita McNeely of Brockton. He will miss his family in Galway, Ireland. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.

Visiting hours in the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street, Thursday, June 26, from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton Friday at 10:30 a.m. Interment with veteran’s honors in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan’s memory may be made to Glastonbury Abbey, 16 Hull St., Hingham, MA 02043.
