First Sergeant Joseph A. Anastasio, 45, formerly of Canton, passed away suddenly May 25 in Germany where he was stationed while serving in the United States Army.

anastasio2Born and raised in Canton, he graduated from Blue Hills Regional High School and attended Troy University. He was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed working on cars.

Joseph enlisted in the Army shortly after graduating from high school and had a decorated 27-year military career. For the majority of his service he was stationed in Germany, Japan and Bosnia and also had tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. For his service to the country he was awarded two Bronze Stars, two Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, the Combat Action Badge, the Airborne Badge, the Iraq Service Medal, and the Afghanistan Service Medal.

Beloved husband of Tina M. Anastasio of Florida. Father of Joseph and Angelica Grace Anastasio of Florida. Step-father of John and Kaitlynn Orren. Loving son of Joseph A. and Dianne M. Anastasio of Canton. Brother of Cynthia Anderson and her husband, Robert, of Hanover, Clark Anastasio and his wife, Kelly, of Easton, and Scott Anastasio of Canton. Uncle of Nichole Anderson of Hanover and Cheyanne and Scott Anastasio of Barre.

A funeral mass was celebrated Monday morning in St. Gerard Majella Church Canton. Burial with full military honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. For guestbook, see dockrayandthomasfuneralhome.com.
