Claire Marie Danahy (Finn), 85, a longtime Canton resident, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 12.

Danahy, ClaireFor over 50 years, she was the loving wife and constant partner of Paul A. Danahy, who passed away three years ago. Claire was predeceased by her older brother John T. Finn in 1989. Claire is survived by her two sons and their wives: Paul (Mike) Danahy and his wife, Diane Angwin, of Chelmsford, and Jack and Sandy Danahy of Bow, NH. She leaves behind five loving grandchildren: Isabelle, André, Claire, Patrick, and Meaghan.

Born in South Boston and raised in Dorchester, Claire moved with her family to Canton in 1941 and went on to graduate from Canton High School. She loved to tell stories of her time as a switchboard operator and supervisor for the New England Telephone Company in the Canton office, where she made many lifelong friendships. Claire was a talented artist and enjoyed all manner of knitting and sewing throughout her life.

A funeral mass was held last Wednesday, May 21, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. Donations may be made in her memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
