Sawtelle, Thelma

By

Thelma Sawtelle, 85, passed away peacefully at Norwood Hospital on Thursday, April 10, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

Affectionately known as “Tedi” to her friends and family, she was a generous and loving wife, mother, and friend. Tedi was born in Boston to the late Harold and Florence (Capillo) Ramsay. She grew up in Maine and Dorchester and graduated from the Dorchester High School for Girls. She married Carl S. Sawtelle in 1950, to whom she remained married for 64 years.

Tedi worked for Shawmut Bank at the North Station branch before having a family. She was also the dedicated personal assistant for Mrs. Eleanor Cabot Bradley of Canton for many years. She was a devoted mother who never missed any event that involved her daughters. She delighted in entertaining friends and family with her frequent celebrations of life events. Tedi was an avid tap dancer and was often known to “put on a show” with her friends. She reveled in spending time with her three grandsons, who she called “her boys.”

Loving mother of Lisa J. Sawtelle of Canton and Tracy L. (Sawtelle) Bailey-Gates and her husband, Shawn D. Bailey-Gates, of Harrisville, RI. Proud grandmother to Brian, Christopher, and Michael Bailey-Gates. She leaves several nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service was held April 14 in the United Church of Christ in Canton. Donations in Tedi’s name can be made to the ASPCA, or to an animal shelter of your choice. Arrangements by the Roache-Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street.
