Kitchen fire extinguished at Butcherie II

By

The Butcherie II, located at 15 Washington Street, is still open for business, but as of Monday morning, April 28, there was no cooking allowed as a result of a kitchen fire that occurred last Wednesday, April 23, around 11 a.m. Fire Lt. Donald Lester said the fire was deemed accidental. A gas stove malfunctioned and caused a fire to spread to the backside of the kitchen wall. The gas was immediately shut off and there was no further damage to the shop. Still, Lester estimated the total damage at approximately $10,000. Fifteen firefighters were called to the scene with assistance from the Sharon and Stoughton fire departments. The town’s gas and plumbing inspectors were also called to the scene.

CPD: Woman faked injury to get out of MV ticket

Canton Police reported on its Facebook page that a woman faked a medical emergency to get out of a traffic ticket. On the morning of March 27, an officer was conducting stationary radar on Randolph Street when he observed a vehicle going over the posted speed limit. He also found a license plate hanging by one screw, and a subsequent registry check revealed that the plate did not belong on the vehicle and should have been returned. The operator then began flailing her hands out of the window and informed the officer that she was having an asthma attack and needed emergency medical attention. The operator then immediately called for Canton EMS to respond, and while the woman was being treated, the officer overheard the woman tell paramedics that she was not having a medical emergency and asked the medics to give her a ride to Walgreens to get an inhaler. The woman was issued a criminal complaint and was summoned to court.

“Faking a medical emergency on a traffic stop won’t get you out of your ticket,” states the Facebook post, “and more importantly, it diverts valuable resources from actual medical emergencies.”
