Did you know …

The Canton High School varsity basketball team had an outstanding year. It set a CHS record with 10 straight wins and set an all-time record by scoring 97 points in a game. The team also scored 95 points in a game during the season. The Bulldogs finished the season at 14-8 overall, which was their best record in over 20 years. The team lost in the Division 2 south sectional quarterfinals to top-seeded Bishop Feehan.

The CHS hockey team finished the season 15-5-4 and repeated as Hockomock Davenport Division champions. The team was led by sophomore goalie Justin Slocum and leading scorer Matt Lazaro. Sophomore John Femia was third in points on the team, while freshman Jerry Harding was fourth in points. According to head coach Brian Shuman, “The success of the younger players this season was a result of the senior class players.” The team lost 3-2 to Medfield in the Division 2 south sectional finals.

Sullivan recently won the 152-pound class at the Division 3 state wrestling meet after winning it all as a sophomore in the 132-pound division.

Quinn Merrigan, also a CHS senior, captured his second consecutive state championship at 138 pounds, making him just the second wrestler in school history to win back-to-back state titles. Both Sullivan and Merrigan also became the first and second wrestlers to reach an All-State final, while Merrigan became the first and only wrestler to reach the finals of the New England Championship.

There are few, if any, jobs in which ability alone is sufficient. Also needed are loyalty, sincerity, enthusiasm, and team play.

This is all for now folks. See you next week.
