On the girls’ side, Canton showed off its depth and talent en route to a convincing 90-65 win.

Emilee Mercuri was a star for the Bulldogs, earning numerous points in both the 200 IM relay and the 200 freestyle relay while also taking home first place in the 100 breaststroke and second place in the 100 butterfly.

Tiffany Ha and Julia Guerini also had big performances on Saturday, with Ha winning the 100 backstroke and Guerini winning the 500 free. The two girls also excelled in the 200 IM, placing second and third, respectively.

Other top performers on the girls’ side included Piper Conway in the 200 free and 100 backstroke, Kelsey Irons in the 50 free and 100 free, Aoife O’Mahoney in the 200 free, Erin Martin in the 100 free, and senior captain Shay Connolly in the 100 backstroke.

In the boys’ competition, the meet came down to the final relay — and the Bulldogs pulled it out, winning 85-78 behind a first-place performance by Anthony Maffie, Sam Riemer, Diego Ferstier, and James Gilmore.

“It was very exciting,” said head coach Lori Mooney of the boys’ win over Attleboro. “We were missing a few swimmers due to ailments so we had to dig deep to cover races.”

Mike Larsen and Reimer both swam in the 200 IM for the first time and ended up taking third and fourth place, finishing behind teammate Sean Mitchell.

Owen Guerini also came up big for Canton, shattering his personal-best time in the 500 free to capture first place. He also finished third in the 50 free, while teammates Ferstier and Gilmore took home second and fourth, respectively.

Other notable performances were turned in by Kevin Wing and Dan Nadeau in the 100 fly, and Steven Hellmuth and Brian McCarthy in the relays. Captains Tim Conway and Matt Chamberlain both posted personal bests in the 200 free, and Caleb Casmir improved his best time in the 500 by 12 seconds.

“[Both teams] deserve recognition for their incredible performances today,” said Mooney. “It was an exciting day with lots of close finishes and outstanding performances.”
