One day the movie-going public might compare Veronica ‘Roni’ Polsgrove to legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg.

The Canton ninth grader created the winning video in a contest sponsored by ARCH Orthodontics based on the theme “Beautiful smiles make the world go round.” Polsgrove won an iPad Mini for her videographic effort.

Polsgrove’s 90-second production follows her morning activities, including brushing her teeth, where the video magically transforms from bleak black and white to Technicolor when her teeth are clean. Then she arranges pastries in the shape of a smile on a cookie sheet, and creates pancakes with smiles made of raisins. At the end, she shares her umbrella with a friend and they’re off to school smiling together — complete with braces.

Dr. Andrew Chase and Dr. Robert Chavez commended Polsgrove for her creativity and production and directorial talents.

“The message is a bullseye,” said Dr. Chavez. “The scripting, photography and music are wonderful, and the humorous touches are magnificent.”

The winning video, “Smiles Make the World Go Round,” can be found here on Youtube.

Polsgrove, who “loves to make videos,” is active in Canton High’s TV production club and “hopes to direct and produce [her] own feature-length movie one day.” Asked about her braces, she said, “I was very excited to get them when I was in middle school, but now I just can’t wait to get them off. Visiting the ARCH office is great. Dr. Chavez makes me laugh and the nice ladies at the front desk are super cool.”

Dr. Chase, who operates ARCH’s nine offices with his father, Dr. Chavez, describes how they conceived the contest: “We’re proud of our talented orthodontists and staff and our thousands of patients whose smiles reflect their talent, and the inner glow of confidence that comes with a beautiful smile. The message of video contest entries had to tie in with ARCH’s philosophy: Life is full of things to smile about, and orthodontic treatment is an investment in your smile which will reap benefits for a lifetime. If you feel good about yourself, you’re more confident, you’ll have a great smile — and that will make others happy.”
