By Canton CitizenRobert Martin Hampe, 80, of Canton, formerly of Dedham, died peacefully after a brief illness October 4, 2013.
Born in Boston, Robert was raised in Dedham and attended Dedham Public Schools. He graduated in 1955 from Northeastern University, where he proudly served as president of the university’s band.
Robert was also a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton for over 50 years and was a lifetime member of the Savin Hill Yacht Club in Boston.
Devoted husband of Elizabeth Hampe (English) of Canton. Loving father of Heidi McCarthy and her husband, Michael, of Middleboro, Robert M. Hampe Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Canton, Stephen Hampe and his wife, Maureen, of North Easton, and John Hampe and his wife, Melissa, of Norton. Loving brother of John C. Hampe and his wife, Gwen, of Dedham. Proud grandfather of Sean, Scott, Andrew, Christina, Patrick, Matthew, and Maria McCarthy, and Mary, Aiden, Katlyn, and Meghan Hampe. He is also survived by nephews John C. Hampe III and James Hampe.
Visiting hours in the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street, Friday, October 11, from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Gerard Majella Church, 1860 Washington Street in Canton. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery.
