Giffels, Frederick W.
By Canton CitizenFrederick W. Giffels, Sr., 87, of Canton, passed away peacefully October 4 at the Hellenic Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Boston, he was a graduate of Northeastern University and Harvard PMD and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the manager of information systems for Boston Edison for 32 years before retiring in 1988 and previously worked for IBM. He has lived in Canton since 1964.
Beloved husband of Virginia E. (Purcell). Father of Frederick W. Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Nevada, Janet A. Cogliano and her husband, Michael, of Canton, Kenneth M. and his wife, Joan, of Mansfield, Lisa Kilp and her husband, Christoph, of Germany, and Pamela Cohen and her husband, Jonathan, of Canton. He is survived by his only sister, Marie (Giffels) Deary-Larkin, and her husband, Paul, of Hingham. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 ½ great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday morning, October 8, in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton. Burial New Calvary, Mattapan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Public Library, 786 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021, or to a charity of one’s choice.
