Walter E. Atwood, Jr., 66, of Stoughton, passed away July 31 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.

atwoodBorn in Boston, he was raised in Wollaston and graduated from Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree and Providence College. He was the owner of D & M Oxygen Co. in Readville for many years and also ran W.E. Atwood Consulting in Stoughton before retiring.

Walter was an extremely outgoing, social person who made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed spending time at Luciano’s in Wrentham on Friday nights and Rosario’s in Canton on Sunday nights. He also enjoyed spending his summers at Long Pond in Plymouth.

Beloved brother of Janet Wiederhold of Stoughton. Uncle of Linda and Brandon Bethea and their daughter Finley of NY and Laura and John Gillespie and their daughters Ella and Allison of Canton. Also survived by his lifelong friends Richard Pedrelli and Glenn Caterer, both of Quincy.

A funeral service was held Monday, August 5, at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Boston Children’s Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115, or to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02445.
