Robert L. Oberg, 68, of Canton, formerly of Pender, Nebraska, died July 17 after a heroic battle with leukemia.

He was a graduate of Pender High School, Wayne State, and Texas A&M. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served for seven years as a captain in the Air Force. He was employed as a computer systems analyst at various companies in the Boston area. He retired from ING in 2012.

Bob was especially devoted to Saint John’s Choir where he sang for over 25 years. His days were brightened by his 20-month-old identical twin grandsons, William and Finnegan Brown.

Beloved husband of Louise C. Scanlon-Oberg (Canton) and father of Heather Brown (Somerset) and Laurel Cawley (Canton). Father-in-law of Kenneth Brown and Matthew Cawley. Brother-in-law to Kathleen and Raymond Henningson of Brockton.

His Nebraska family includes his 96-year-old mother, Mildred Oberg Ellyson, of Pender, and sisters Mary Jane Kot (husband Petro) of Lincoln and Beverly Kai (husband Gene) of California. His father was the late Lester Oberg and brother the late Fred Oberg.

Visiting hours at the Dockray and Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Friday, July 26, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton on Saturday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. John’s Choir, 700 Washington Street, Canton, MA 02021, or to the American Thoracic Society (ATS), 25 Broadway, 18th Floor, New York, NY 10004. (Bob had a lung transplant.)
