Memorial fund established in honor of Ed McDaid

Family and friends of the late Ed McDaid are pleased to announce the creation of the Ed McDaid Memorial Fund.

McDaid, a lifelong Canton resident and owner of South Shore Staffing, died tragically in an auto accident May 1 in Rhode Island.

To honor his memory, the Ed McDaid Memorial Fund Committee is looking to raise funds to refurbish a bench overlooking Forge Pond, where he lived and worked. The bench will have a plaque bearing his name and a flowering tree will be planted nearby.

McDaid, 46, was remembered “for his constant smile and for always having a cheerful word for everyone,” according to a statement issued by the memorial committee. “He served as the trustee of the Forge Pond Condo Trust and was also a Canton native and business owner.”

As the founder of South Shore Staffing, McDaid “exemplified all that the [staffing] industry should be,” according to acting president Linda McDaid. “Ed understood that a handshake and a face-to-face visit was far preferable to an email, and he was guided by that principal as he built this business.”

In addition to his role as a business owner, McDaid was also an active member of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce, where he had numerous roles, including serving on the chamber’s board of directors.

All funds raised by the memorial committee will go toward the refurbishment of the bench and the planting of the flowering tree, and any remaining funds will be donated to Canton Little League in McDaid’s name.

An account has been set up with Canton Co-operative Bank and donations can be made payable to the Ed McDaid Memorial Fund, either at the bank or by mailing a check to South Shore Staffing, 12 Forge Pond, Canton, MA 02021. Please make sure to include your name, address, and telephone number, as the committee would like to contact donors regarding the date and time of the dedication ceremony.
