Baseball team eliminated in tourney opener
By Mike BergerCanton High’s baseball season ended on Thursday, May 30, in the preliminary round of the Division 3 playoffs as the Bulldogs fell to Medway 5-1 at Medway High School.
Canton, which was seeded 19th in the south sectional bracket, fell to 4-17 with the loss. Medway, which came in as the 14th seed, improved to 11-9 before losing in the next round to No. 3 Ashland.
Jimmy Fitzgerald started on the mound for the Bulldogs and pitched a complete game, allowing four runs and striking out six batters.
Kevin O’Brien, Sam Larson, and Wyatt Golledge each had a hit for Canton, with O’Brien scoring the team’s only run and Larson adding a stolen base.
