Library trustee steps down after 36 years

By

Dear Friends:

It has been my privilege to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Canton Public Library since 1977. It is now time for me to step down. So many wonderful things have happened to the library since 1977.

Perhaps the most significant occurred more than ten years ago when, with the cooperation of the town of Canton, the board undertook the successful building project that led to the addition and renovation of the library. The town embraced the idea, moved forward at town meetings, and finally the newly renovated building opened to much praise.

Only months after its joyous opening, the library was forced to close again due to a massive flooding of the facility. This last event speaks to the incredible resilience of our library staff and its volunteers.

Throughout the years and for the length of this project so much of the source of our inspiration has come from Director Mark Lague. Mark leads a staff that is deeply appreciated by our patrons and trustees for their warmth and personal attention. It is the entire staff that makes the Canton Public Library such a special place to visit and serve.

I know the future remains bright for the Canton Public Library as the town continues to embrace the library as it serves the public’s needs in a changing world.

Sincerely,

Betty Chelmow
