JFK Winter Fling organizers grateful for support

Dear Editor:

After being delayed by the blizzard of 2013, the Kennedy Elementary School held its annual Winter Fling carnival on Saturday, March 9. This event is an important fundraiser for the JFK CAPT (Canton Alliance of Parents and Teachers), which funds enrichment activities such as field trips, an author-in-residence for each grade, and additional enrichment programs at the school. We would like to take this moment to thank everyone who played a part in making this year’s Winter Fling a great success.

A huge thank you goes out to Superintendent Jeffrey Granatino, JFK Principal Kimberly Sefrino, senior custodian Steve Idman, and custodial staff William Grant and John McKay, who worked together to make it possible for us to get into the school on Friday to set up and had our walkways and parking lot cleared of snow for Saturday when we were almost derailed by yet another snowstorm.

The following businesses contributed raffle items and fun activities to our event: Big Y, Brockton Rox, Camp Westwoods, Dedham Health and Athletic Complex, Discovery Museums, Davis Farmland, Dream Machine, Easton Children’s Museum, Funtown Splashtown, Giovanni’s, Haley School of Irish Dance, Its 2 Cool, JFK staff, Jump Trax, Kerri’s Kloset, Living the Dream Auto Care, The Main Course Market, Monster Mini Golf, Moore Power and Fitness, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, New England Aquarium, Pawtucket Red Sox, Providence Bruins, Rodman Ford, Santa’s Village, Sayers, Sky Zone, Storyland, South Shore Music Circus, VMC Services (Mike Lennon’s the Video Man), Walgreens, and York’s Wild Kingdom.

As in past years, the business community has generously supported the Winter Fling. Our map sponsors included Canton Dental Collaborative, Canton Dental Group, Canton Plumbing & Heating, Metro South Gymnastics, Roache-Pushard Family Funeral Home, Rodman Ford, the Russian School of Math, and Therapeutic Learning Center. Our general business sponsors included Atlantic Insurance Group Agency, Poirier’s Garage, and Pratt Realtors.

We were able to raise money for the school through our concessions based upon the generous donations of pizza by Angelo’s Pizza, slushes from Giovanni’s Ice Cream, waters from The Main Course Market, hot dogs from Kayem, and drinks from Coca-Cola.

We were fortunate to have entertainment throughout the day, including performances by JFK fifth grade play participants under the direction of Rebecca Tellyer and Barbara Carbone, the Dance Out dancers under the guidance of Melanie Cox, and dancers from the Haley School of Irish Dance led by Erin Blake-Connolly. Thanks to these student performers and directors for sharing their talent and enthusiasm with us.

Many parents, JFK teachers and staff, Canton High School students, Winter Fling Committee members and CAPT members volunteered their time and expertise to make the day enjoyable for all.

And last but certainly not least, thank you to every parent, friend and community member who contributed sponsorship funds, donated raffle items, purchased raffle tickets, and participated in Fling activities. We truly appreciate everyone who joined in the fun and helped to make the 2013 JFK Winter Fling a great success!

Sincerely,

Karen Feeney, Deb Hernon and Karen Lempert
