Gymnasts end regular season on a high note

For the second time this season, the CHS gymnastics team competed against King Philip, and once again the Bulldogs prevailed in a nail biter, 130.6-130.05.

With the victory, Canton climbed over .500 and finished at 4-3 overall — and they did so without sophomore Abby Green, one of the squad’s top scorers and all-around gymnasts who was unable to compete due to injury.

Freshman standout Stephanie Milne finished off her rookie season just as strong as she began it. As an all-around, she placed first on bars (8.8), beam (8.95), and floor (9.1) and took second place on the vault (9.15).

Also placing for Canton was sophomore Meghan Peters. Competing on bars, beam and floor, Peters earned high scores for her routines and placed second on floor with a season-high 8.7. Senior captains Lizzy Doherty and Jessie Brooks earned high marks on the vault, with season-high scores of 8.2 and 8.5, respectively. Sophomore Danielle Arthur and freshman Mollie Norian also posted season highs, with a 7.2 on bars for Arthur and 7.0 on beam for Norian.

Meanwhile, there were two gymnasts who competed for the first time this season, and both performed well, with sophomore Maddie Kamin earning a 6.0 on the beam and junior Colleen Boris posting a 7.3 on the floor. Head coach Carla King said it was a “great showing for their first meet.”

King was proud of her team and happy to conclude the regular season on a high note. “It was tough having Abby Green out due to injury,” she said, “but the whole team stepped it up and really did a great job … What a way to end the season.”

Due to the recent snowstorm, the status of the Hockomock Championship was unknown at the time of publication.
