Charity fire/police hockey event to benefit Canton officer

Area police and fire departments will be playing hockey to benefit Canton Police Officer Ralph Centeno, who is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. The fifth annual charity hockey benefit will be held Saturday, March 9, at 8 p.m. at the Metropolis Ice Rink. Stoughton fire/police will play Randolph fire/PD at 8 p.m., followed by Canton fire/police versus Boston Police at 9 p.m. There will be free admission with donations requested at the door. There will be a “chuck a puck contest” as well as auction items, a DJ, and raffles. Those who would like to make a donation prior to the event can drop it off at the Canton Fire Station, located at 99 Revere Street.

Police called to help control Stoughton brawl

A combination of 30 area police officers, including three from Canton along with officers Stoughton, Randolph, Easton, the State Police, and the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Department, were called to control an unruly crowd that erupted at a baby shower late Saturday night at the Club Luis de Camoes at 76 Porter Street in Stoughton. Police broke up various fights, and four people face charges related to the incident. Police estimated the crowd at 200 people, including small children. Four officers suffered minor injuries and one officer was forced to use his stun gun.

Firefighters respond to 2 mutual aid calls in Stoughton

Canton firefighters responded to two mutual aid calls in Stoughton last week. On Monday, January 7, around 6:30 p.m., four firefighters went to a two-alarm fire on Churchill Avenue, where they assisted with extinguishing the fire and with overhaul operations. No injuries were reported. On January 11, four firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire on Wales Avenue. The Canton engine company served as the Rapid Intervention Team, which is tasked with the rescue of a trapped or missing firefighter. No injuries were reported on the call.
