Local banks join forces to support Housing Authority

Bank of Canton and Canton Co-operative Bank have jointly donated $6,000 to the Canton Housing Authority (CHA) to refurbish the community rooms at three local senior housing complexes.

Stephen P. Costello, president of Bank of Canton; Mark Roy, CHA executive director; Martin Dorian, CHA chairman; and Deborah Kreusch, president of Canton Co-operative Bank

Stephen P. Costello, president of Bank of Canton, challenged all financial institutions in the Canton area to match its $3,000 contribution to the CHA. Canton Co-operative Bank accepted the challenge, making an additional $3,000 donation of its own.

The two $3,000 donations will be used to purchase fire-retardant furniture and flat-screen televisions for the community rooms at Hagan Court, Rubin Court, and Hemenway. Tenants’ rent at these complexes is capped at 30 percent of their income, according to state law, and CHA has no funds for improving the amenities.

“It is a vital part of our mission to reach out to residents of all ages and incomes,” said Costello. “The Canton Housing Authority does an excellent job of ensuring town-wide access to affordable housing. We wanted to contribute to this important initiative, which will enhance the quality of life in our community, as well as encourage other banks in the area to do the same.”

“We are very lucky here in Canton to have a wonderful Housing Authority,” said Deborah Kreusch, president of Canton Co-operative. “They do such good work with and for our seniors. It is Canton Co-operative Bank’s pleasure and an honor to support them.”

“The Canton Housing Authority is very grateful to both the Bank of Canton and Canton Co-operative Bank for their generous donations, which will improve the quality of life and safety of residents at our three senior complexes,” said Mark Roy, executive director of the CHA.
