An up and down regular season ended on a high note for the CHS boys’ soccer team as the Bulldogs wrapped up play with blowout victories over Foxboro and Stoughton to finish in third place in the Davenport Division at 9-6-2.

The squad now heads into the postseason riding a three-game winning streak and is 4-1-2 over its past seven games following a 5-5 start.

Of course, excitement should probably be tempered with the two most recent victories, as they came against teams with a combined record of 4-29-2. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs looked sharp in both contests, as they dominated Foxboro 7-1 on the road last Tuesday and then beat Stoughton 6-1 on senior night on Friday.

Senior captain Michael Denehy was the offensive star in both games, netting back-to-back hat tricks while also adding a pair of assists to give him a team-best 25 points for the season. Denehy’s eight-point outburst also moved him past former high school All-American Chris Murray (’12) into second place on the CHS boys’ soccer program’s all-time scoring list.

Other top performers last week included sophomore Damian Kozak, who scored a goal and four assists against Foxboro; junior Eric Wong, who had two goals against Foxboro and one against Stoughton; and senior Antonio Klisairis, who had a goal in both games.

Senior captain Matt Lennon added a goal against Stoughton, and sophomore Spencer Cox found the net against Foxboro for his first career goal. Senior John Demoy also had a strong week, finishing with a pair of assists.

Head coach Danny Erickson joined the team in honoring its 10 seniors on Friday night, and the group responded with an impressive performance against the Black Knights. Erickson said all 10 of them played well in the victory, including captain Jimmy Kelly, Brendan MacDonald, Andrew Burkowsky, Brian McCabe, Kyle Hanscom, and goalkeeper Yanni Folkes.

The Bulldogs will now await their seeding in the upcoming south sectional tournament, which gets underway later this week. The team has had great success in the tournament in recent years, having reached the semifinals in six straight seasons and winning the title outright in 2010.
