Police nab suspect in NStar plant break-in
By Mike BergerSeveral police officers were involved in a short foot pursuit of a Canton man suspected of breaking into the NStar plant located on Edison Hill near the Viaduct and the entrance to Walpole Street.
NStar security personnel notified police on October 5 at 6:48 p.m. after video cameras spotted a man breaking into the plant and attempting to steal 75 feet of copper wire. Officer Brian Wanless responded, and after hearing noises in the woods, started to chase the suspect down a hill. Assisting him in the arrest were Sgt. Ken Drinan and officers Glen Nix, Brendan Healy, and Ted Lehan.
Police arrested and charged Matthew J. Bresnahan, 22, of 4 Neponset Place, with breaking and entering a building in the nighttime (felony), larceny from a building and malicious destruction of property over $250. Bresnahan was arrested a few months ago by Police Chief Ken Berkowitz for breaking into Kessler’s on Neponset Street and attempting to steal metal, which is considered a valuable commodity on the open market.
Fire Dept. to host open house, install smoke detectors for seniors on Oct. 21
The Canton Fire Department will hold an open house on Sunday, October 21, at CFD headquarters, located at 99 Revere Street. Also on that day, firefighters will install free smoke detectors for any resident 65 years or older who requests one. Residents are asked to contact Lt. Brian Marshall at 575-6654, ext. 114, to sign up. The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Station tours will be held and apparatus will be displayed. The American Red Cross will also host a blood drive and there will be free refreshments and pizza.
