Kessler III, Joseph

Joseph (Joe) Kessler III of Sharon passed away peacefully at home in Sharon on August 16, 2012. Joes was born on March 4, 1946, in Norwood, the only son of the late Joseph Kessler Jr. and Laura (Cormier) Kessler, who survives him. He leaves his spouse, Carole Ahearn Kessler.

He is survived by his children, Vicki Sullivan of Chesapeake, VA; Patricia Murphy (Lucas) of North Easton; Joseph Kessler IV (Renee), and Mark Kessler (fiancée Lin Haley) of Canton. He was predeceased by his daughter, Christine Kessler. Also survived by him are his two stepdaughters, Tracey Drummond and Debbie Freshman.

He has eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and 11 nieces and nephews. Joe’s sisters include Joan (Brian) Cowan of Brewster; Rainy (Rob) Knauber and Janet (Peter) Dawson, both of Canton; and Diane (Rudy) Nelson of Duxbury. He was predeceased by his sister Karen (Steve) Miller of Canton.

Joe graduated from Canton High School in 1965. After serving in the United States Army, he took his place at the family business: Kessler Machine Works on Neponset Street in Canton, which was founded by his grandfather, Joseph Kessler Sr. in the 1930s. The business has continued to pass from generation to generation, father to son, and is now owned by Joe’s son, Joseph Kessler IV. Joe was also a member of the Canton Historical Society and the Sharon Historical Society.

His hobbies include camping, gardening, music, and poetry. He was passionate about antique engines and would travel around the country acquiring interesting pieces for his collection.

A memorial service will be held in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton on Saturday, September 8, at 11 a.m. The family requests that memorial donations in Joe’s memory be made to the National Cancer Society. Arrangements by the Roache-Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street.
