New gas line projects scheduled this fall

By

Columbia Gas (formerly Bay State Gas) is nearing completion of the Washington Street to Cobb’s Corner gas line project, but that is only the beginning of many new gas line projects scheduled throughout the fall. Already the second project has begun on Legion Street with a completion date set for September 4.

The third project, from Chapman to Washington Street to the end of Sherman Street, will begin August 28 with a stop date of November 25. Pleasant Street from Lincolnshire Road to the Stoughton town line is set to begin on August 31 and end November 23. Sanford Road will begin September 6 and end September 15, and Chapman Street will begin September 13 and end October 12. Pinedale Lane will begin October 3 and end October 26, and Pleasant Street from Washington Street to Lincolnshire Drive will begin once the Reservoir Pond dam construction has ended.

Town Administrator Bill Friel said Columbia Gas will repave the trench line on each street but not the entire roadway. Friel said the town has little control as to when and where the lines are dug up. Their only request was that Columbia Gas stop further line trench work until the Reservoir Pond dam was completed.
