Police arrest suspect in daytime house burglary

By

Quick investigative work and an alert spotting of the suspect’s vehicle led Canton police to arrest a Hyde Park man after he allegedly broke into a Sunnybrook Lane residence on Saturday morning, June 2, around 10 a.m.

Robert Cherry, 52, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the daytime and larceny from a building. Because of the man’s extensive criminal record, Police Lt. Helena Findlen said he was held on $100,000 bail and taken to the Dedham House of Correction until this week’s arraignment.

A resident at Sunnybrook Lane had walked into her house and spotted the suspect, who immediately fled the scene; however, the resident was able to take down a partial license plate and also gave police a description of the suspect.

Officer Robert Quirk later spotted the vehicle at the Park & Ride lot on the Canton-Milton line and saw the man enter the woods. The canine unit was called, and after being detained by Findlen, the suspect was arrested and led away by Detective Eric Wade.

Findlen said silver coins and jewelry were taken in the housebreak. Entry was gained through a door left ajar.
