Tierney, Robert F.
By Canton CitizenRobert F. Tierney, 83, of Canton, formerly of Norwood, passed away January 13 at Norwood Hospital.
Born and raised in Boston, he attended Boston schools and graduated from UMass Boston. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and served for many years as a truant officer with the Boston Police Department, retiring in 1980. He was the past commander of the VFW in Dorchester and a member of the Boston Patrolmen’s Association.
Beloved father of Lisa Tierney of Walpole, Marybeth Gendron and her husband, Jan, of Providence, and Robert Tierney of Leesberg, VA. Brother of the Honorable William J. Tierney of Quincy, Claire Guerin of South Boston, and James Tierney of Needham. Also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday morning, January 17, in St. Augustine’s Cemetery Chapel in South Boston. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Veterans Service Department, 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021, or to the Norwood Veterans Service Department, 556 Washington St., Norwood, MA 02062.
