Bluesman JP Jones to play Open Book Coffeehouse

By

The Open Book Coffeehouse continues its seventh consecutive season of showcasing live, acoustic music on Saturday, December 3, at 7:30 p.m. with blues singer/songwriter JP Jones.

JP Jones

Jones has been called “America’s hidden lion of independent music” (OpEdNews.com). Best known for his folk-influenced songwriting, he is a classically trained composer who grew up on the rock and soul music of the 1960s. His recorded work has been compared to giants like Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan and contemporaries Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen and Mark Knopfler.

Hailed as “one of the best American singer-songwriters” (Kevin McCarthy, Kevin’s Celtic & Folk Music CD Reviews) and “one of the best songwriters in the indie world” (Jan Best, Independent Songwriter Web Magazine), for more than 20 years Jones has been the focal point of his one-artist label, Vision Company Records, for which he’s released 12 CDs and published hundreds of songs.

Opening for Jones will be the band 500 Pieces. The members are Ben Pirog on guitar and vocals, Matt Piana on drums, Matt Potts on guitar/backing vocals, and Malcolm Hebb on bass. The band members are students at Canton High School.

Enjoy the relaxing, warm atmosphere of friendly people, good music, hot coffee and homebaked goodies. Admission to the coffeehouse is $9 per person, with a special reduced rate of $5 for students. The doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the music starts at 7:30.

The Open Book Coffeehouse is located in the Community Room of the Canton Public Library at 786 Washington Street and is made possible by the Friends of the Library. Parking is to the left when facing the library from Washington Street. Enter by the “Special Events” door to the left of the columns, midway into the parking area.
