Canton Fall Classic postponed to Nov. 6

By

The Canton Fall Classic road race was postponed due to the storm that hit our area on Sunday, October 30. Although this was a difficult decision to make, the Canton police chief and race organizers agreed that the safety of our community and racers must take precedent. The road race will now celebrate its 23rd year on Sunday, November 6, offering more than $2,400 in cash and merchandise prizes.

Runners and walkers are invited to join us next week for the Fall Classic’s 10K and 5K competitive distances, and for the one-mile fun run. The race begins at 10 a.m. (fun run at 9:45 a.m.) at Temple Beth Abraham, 1301 Washington Street in Canton.

Hundreds of runners, spectators, and volunteers from across the south shore enjoy the annual event, widely regarded as one of the most scenic and challenging races in the area. The accurate, wheel-measured races provide split times and ample water stations. New for 2011 will be chip timing and a team award in the 10K race.

Refreshments, entertainment and award ceremonies back at Temple Beth Abraham conclude the race. Runners who registered before October 15 are guaranteed a commemorative Canton Fall Classic long-sleeve T-shirt.

There is a $500 bonus if anyone breaks the 20-year-old 10K course record of 30:12. There are also bonuses for other course records. Cash and merchandise prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in the 10K and 5K races in seven age divisions: Under 18, Open (18-29), Submaster (30-39), Master (40-49), Senior (50-59), Veteran (60+), and Super Vet (70+).
