Canton Squirt A’s cap off perfect season with SSC title

By

On Saturday, April 9, at the Asiaf Arena in Brockton, the undefeated Canton Squirt A’s shut out Milton 2-0 to capture the South Shore Conference championship and finish with a perfect 34-0 record.

Canton’s Jimmy Duffy scored both of the team’s goals, Brendan Gunning earned his 13th shutout of the season, and Johnny Hagan and Max Fields both had assists in the title-clinching win.

This Squirt “A” team not only went 31-0 in the regular season and 3-0 in the playoffs; they also went 4-0 in the Lake Placid Tournament and 4-0 in the Barnstable “A” Tournament for a combined record of 42-0. The team finished with the most goals scored at 231 and the best goal against average at 1.03 per game.

It was a delight to watch these kids play the game of hockey. From great passes and plays to awesome defense and back checking – and of course, saves. If you see these kids around town, please congratulate them on a great season.

The 2011 South Shore Conference champs are: Nick Allen, Jimmy Duffy, Max Fields, Jack Goyetch, Brendan Gunning, Johnny Hagan, Joey Hines, Chris Lavoie, Matt Martin, Bubba McNiece, Zack Milton, Ryan Nolte, Tyler Sullivan and Robby Wilkinson.

It will be a long time before Canton hockey has another team that goes 42-0. Great job!
