Chief Doody to chair regional planning committee

By

Canton Fire Chief Charlie Doody was named chairman of the Central Norfolk Regional Emergency Planning Committee, and the group is now applying for state and federal grant money for disaster planning and emergency drills.

The group met April 20 at the Canton Public Library and the committee was certified by the state. Doug Forbes from the Mass. Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) attended to announce the state certification and meet Doody and other committee members.

Doody said the state now wants regional committees made up of health, government, police, fire and private business members.

With this certification, the committee can now apply for government Homeland Security funds for disaster planning, emergency planning and live emergency drills.

Community representatives on this committee come from Canton, Sharon, Norwood, Walpole, Millis, Medway, and Bellingham.

Doody said the next step for the committee is to finalize current emergency planning for each community and present it to a state planner for review.
